Squire Sanders has a long history in Asia. We first operated in Tokyo in 1955 as an office of Graham & James, which was one of the first US law firms to establish a presence in Japan. Since then, we have counseled major corporations in Japan on a number of well-known offshore matters. In 2010 our office merged with renowned intellectual property firm Miki & Yoshida, bolstering our already impressive intellectual property capabilities.

Our Tokyo lawyers focus on large corporate and financing transactions, serving a diverse client base that includes major telecommunications companies, trading companies, manufacturers, banks and other financial institutions, as well as industry-leading software and media companies. Our office has substantial experience in energy and infrastructure projects, dispute resolution, e-commerce, information technology, venture capital, antitrust, project finance, mergers and acquisitions, and civil and commercial litigation including securities litigation. In addition, we actively protect and enforce the intellectual property rights of companies of all sizes and properly defend them in suits alleging violations of the intellectual property rights of others.

Our Tokyo lawyers are admitted in Japan and the United States. Our work experience in Asia, Europe and North America, including handling transactional matters in every region of the world, enables us to perform sophisticated cross-border work.

To keep pace with the rapid and extensive changes driven by globalization in the legal environment, we take a practical approach to legal issues and adopt a global perspective, providing practical, flexible and organic solutions to your legal challenges in Japan and throughout the world.
