European Practice

We represent clients before the European Commission in the most significant merger reviews, cartel investigations and abuse of dominance proceedings. Through regular contact with the Commission, lawyers keep their clients apprised of new and emerging policies and practices that might impact their activities. Lawyers in our Brussels office are European nationals, qualified to advise on their respective national laws and the implementation of EU law into national legal systems. As a market leader in both Central Europe and Brussels, Squire Sanders is at the forefront in addressing the hidden challenges that businesses face arising from the accession of Poland, Hungary, the Czech and Slovak Republics as well as the other six countries involved in the 2004 enlargement.

Belgian Practice

Our team of Belgian business law practitioners offers our clients an all-round service in and outside Belgium in an array of legal matters including general corporate and commercial work (including advice on consumer protection laws, e-commerce and privacy), corporate transactions and joint ventures, capital market transactions and acquisition finance, banking and finance, real estate, restructuring, and employment and benefits.

Our Belgian lawyers are all members of the Brussels Bar. All of them have combined their Belgian law degree with a postgraduate master degree in law and/or business economics from internationally reputed universities. All our lawyers are multilingual and speak at least Dutch, French and English fluently. Our Belgian lawyers also regularly represent clients before the Belgian courts.

Our Belgian lawyers work closely with other Squire Sanders offices worldwide on complex cross-border transactions and frequently coordinate pan-European transactions.

Regulatory Practice

Our regulatory advice covers a wide sector of manufacturing and service sectors including chemicals, data, energy, heavy manufacturing and pharmaceuticals. Recognized by Chambers Europe 2009 for our competition and EU law experience, our lawyers frequently advise clients on competition and trade matters and regularly represent them before the European Commission and the Court of First Instance in Luxembourg.
